3 Days Desert Tour from Marrakech
- 3 Days / 2 Nights
- From 2 to 18
- Marrakech
Experience the very best of southern Morocco in just three days on this compact yet breathtaking desert circuit from Marrakech. This carefully designed itinerary takes you from the vibrant souqs of the Red City, over the dramatic High Atlas Mountains, through the legendary kasbahs of the Draa Valley, all the way to the towering golden dunes of Erg Chegaga — one of the most remote and spectacular ergs in the entire Sahara.
You will discover UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou, walk through centuries-old earthen architecture, follow ancient caravan routes to Zagora, and sleep beneath a canopy of desert stars. The return journey carries you through the wild landscapes of Foum Zguid and the carpet-weaving town of Taznakht before sweeping back across the Atlas to Marrakech — a perfect loop through Morocco’s most iconic landscapes.
1. Tizi n’Tichka Pass & High Atlas Mountains
Cross one of Morocco’s most thrilling mountain passes at 2,260 metres, winding through Berber villages and dramatic gorges with sweeping panoramic views of the Atlas range.
2. Telouate Kasbah
Discover the hauntingly beautiful ruins of the Glaoui Kasbah at Telouate — a once-magnificent palace largely hidden from the tourist trail, offering a fascinating glimpse into Morocco’s complex history.
3. Ait Ben Haddou — UNESCO World Heritage Site
Explore Morocco’s most iconic fortified village, a stunning ksar of earthen towers and labyrinthine alleys that has served as backdrop for Game of Thrones, Gladiator, and Lawrence of Arabia.
4. Draa Valley & Zagora
Follow the ancient caravan route south through the Draa Valley — Morocco’s longest river valley — past palm groves, rose-pink kasbahs, and the legendary Zagora, where a famous sign points “Timbuktu 52 Days.”
5. Erg Chegaga — Wild Sahara Dunes
Reach the magnificent Erg Chegaga by 4×4, far from the crowds, where vast seas of golden dunes rise 300 metres under an infinite desert sky — a truly raw and unforgettable Saharan experience.
6. Foum Zguid & Taznakht Return
Journey home via the spectacular desert piste through Foum Zguid and the artisan town of Taznakht, famous throughout Morocco for its hand-woven Berber carpets and vibrant souq.
Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Telouate – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate
Depart Marrakech early morning and head south on the famous Tizi n’Tichka road, climbing through the High Atlas Mountains via the spectacular 2,260m pass. Stop at the atmospheric Telouate Kasbah — the crumbling palace of the Glaoui clan, largely off the tourist trail — before descending to the iconic ksar of Ait Ben Haddou. Spend time exploring this UNESCO World Heritage Site, crossing the river on stepping stones and climbing to the agadir (fortified granary) for panoramic views. Continue to Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Morocco,” for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Ouarzazate – Draa Valley – Zagora – Erg Chegaga
After breakfast, leave Ouarzazate and travel south along the magnificent Draa Valley — Morocco’s longest river valley, lined with ancient ksour, lush palmeries, and kasbahs stretching to the horizon. Pass through the oasis town of Agdz and continue south to Zagora, the historic gateway town where a famous sign marks “Timbuktu: 52 Days by Camel.” From Zagora, venture further south to M’Hamid El Ghizlane — the last village before the great sand sea — then transfer by 4×4 across the desert tracks to your remote Erg Chegaga desert camp. Watch the sun set over the dunes and enjoy a traditional Berber dinner under the stars.

Wake before sunrise to witness the golden light paint the dunes in extraordinary colours — a magical Saharan dawn. After breakfast, depart the desert camp and head north by 4×4 through the remote desert piste to Foum Zguid, a small desert outpost at the edge of the great erg. From here, join the paved road and travel through the stunning pre-Saharan landscapes to Taznakht, a charming market town famous throughout Morocco for its beautiful hand-woven Berber carpets.
