This spectacular 6-day grand circuit departs and returns to Marrakech, weaving together the most iconic landscapes and hidden treasures of southern and western Morocco in one seamless loop. From the sun-baked earthen towers of Ait Ben Haddou to the vast wild dunes of Erg Chegaga, from the carpet-weaving Berber heartland of Taznakht to the rose-pink ramparts of Taroudant, and from the windswept Atlantic medina of Essaouira back to the Red City — this journey captures the full spirit of Morocco.
Crossing the High Atlas twice, traversing ancient caravan routes, sleeping beside the Sahara, and strolling fortified coastal ramparts, this tour is perfectly crafted for travellers who want to experience the extraordinary diversity of Morocco’s landscapes, cultures, and history without compromise. It is a journey that will stay with you long after you return home.
1. Ait Ben Haddou — UNESCO World Heritage Site
Explore Morocco’s most iconic ksar, a maze of earthen towers and ancient alleys that has starred in Game of Thrones, Gladiator, and Lawrence of Arabia — a living monument to pre-Saharan architecture.
2. Erg Chegaga — The Wild Sahara
Reach the remote and majestic Erg Chegaga by 4×4, far from the crowds, where towering golden dunes stretch to the horizon under an infinite desert sky. Spend a night beneath the stars in a traditional Berber camp.
3. Taznakht — Berber Carpet Capital
Discover Taznakht, a fascinating market town nestled in the Anti-Atlas, world-renowned for its hand-woven Berber carpets in vibrant geometric patterns — a living tradition passed down through generations.
4. Taroudant — The Grandmother of Marrakech
Walk the magnificent 7-kilometre circuit of Taroudant’s ancient ochre ramparts, explore its two bustling souqs, and soak up the laid-back atmosphere of one of Morocco’s most beautifully preserved walled cities.
5. Essaouira — The Windy City
Lose yourself in the blue-and-white labyrinth of Essaouira’s UNESCO-listed medina, walk the dramatic Atlantic sea ramparts, browse the art galleries and woodwork workshops, and breathe the fresh ocean air of this magical coastal town.
6. High Atlas & Anti-Atlas Crossings
Experience Morocco’s dramatic mountain transitions twice — the High Atlas via Tizi n’Tichka on day one, and the rugged Anti-Atlas landscapes between Chegaga and Taznakht on the return — each offering spectacular scenery and Berber villages.
Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou
Depart Marrakech early and head south on the famous Tizi n’Tichka road, climbing through the High Atlas Mountains via the dramatic 2,260m pass. Stop at the haunting ruins of the Glaoui Kasbah at Telouate — an off-the-beaten-track gem largely missed by tourist groups. Descend to the iconic ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, crossing the Ounila River on stepping stones to explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site at leisure. Climb to the agadir at the summit for sweeping views across the valley. Overnight in Ait Ben Haddou or nearby Ouarzazate.

Day 2: Ait Ben Haddou – Draa Valley – M’Hamid – Erg Chegaga
After breakfast, head south through the magnificent Draa Valley — Morocco’s longest river valley — past lush palmeries, ancient ksour, and rose-pink kasbahs stretching towards the Sahara. Stop in Agdz to admire the Kasbah Azul and continue to Zagora, the historic caravan gateway where the legendary sign points “Timbuktu: 52 Days by Camel.” Push further south to M’Hamid El Ghizlane, the last oasis before the great sand sea, then venture by 4×4 across desert pistes to the remote Erg Chegaga. Arrive at your camp as the sun sets over the dunes in a blaze of gold and crimson. Dine around the fire with traditional Berber music under a sky blazing with stars.

Day 3: Erg Chegaga – Foum Zguid – Taznakht
Rise before sunrise to witness the extraordinary light of dawn over the Erg Chegaga dunes — a moment of pure magic. After a Saharan breakfast, depart by 4×4 across the desert tracks heading north through Foum Zguid, a remote desert outpost at the edge of the erg. From here, join the paved road and travel through the spectacular pre-Saharan landscapes of the Jbel Bani range. Arrive in Taznakht, a vibrant Berber market town in the heart of the Anti-Atlas, world-famous for its hand-woven Amazigh carpets in vivid geometric patterns. Visit a local carpet cooperative and explore the colourful weekly souk.
- Accommodation: Taznakht
- Meals: Breakfast & Dinner
Day 4: Taznakht – Anti-Atlas – Taroudant
After breakfast, continue west through the dramatic Anti-Atlas mountains — a landscape of ancient red and ochre granite peaks, Argan forests, and traditional Berber villages clinging to hillsides. Descend towards the fertile Sous Plain, Morocco’s great agricultural valley framed by the High Atlas to the north and the Anti-Atlas to the south. Arrive in Taroudant — the “Grandmother of Marrakech” — a spectacularly preserved walled city ringed by 7km of magnificent ochre ramparts. Explore the lively Berber and Arab souqs, taste local Amlou (almond and argan paste), and stroll the ancient medina as the sun sets behind the Atlas.
- Accommodation: Taroudant
- Meals: Breakfast & Dinner
Day 5: Taroudant – Sous Plain – Agadir – Essaouira
Depart Taroudant and travel west through the Sous Plain before reaching the coast at Agadir. From here, follow the spectacular Atlantic coastal road northward — a scenic drive past dramatic cliffs, fishing villages, Argan forests, and windswept beaches. Pass through the charming fishing port of Sidi Kaouki before arriving in Essaouira — the enchanting blue-and-white port city whose UNESCO-listed medina, ancient Portuguese ramparts, and thriving arts scene have captivated artists, musicians, and travellers for centuries. Walk the dramatic sea walls at sunset and dine on fresh grilled fish at the harbour.
- Accommodation: Essaouira

Day 6: Essaouira – Haouz Plains – Marrakech
Spend a final morning in Essaouira — browsing the woodwork shops fragrant with thuya and cedar, watching the blue fishing boats in the harbour, and savouring a last café au lait in the medina. Depart late morning and drive inland across the wide Haouz Plains, Morocco’s fertile heartland, with the snow-capped peaks of the High Atlas rising dramatically to the south.
